Spatial Query is a valuable tool that allows users to draw an ad hoc area on the
map and return formatted content and business intelligence, or perform precise actions
for items within that area.
Spatial Query
in Visual Fusion is easily set up within XML configuration files and gives the application
creator great flexibility. The results of the query typically involve some sort
of data display, such as a datagrid or business intelligence widgets, but can also
involve other, more complex, activities.
Visual Fusion Spatial Query can be molded to fit the needs of the individual application,
and an application can have numerous spatial queries available at once. In addition
to data displays, a spatial query could result in a specific action, such as opening
up a new email message with all the contact addresses from my spatial query represented
in the "To" field. Or, kick off a workflow for the selected items by bringing up
an InfoPath form with key fields pre-populated with the data from the items that
fall within the query area. The possibilities are endless.
Spatial Query in Visual Fusion also gives flexibility to the end user of the tool. Users can choose between a radius query, a box query, or an ad hoc polygon query that allows them to precisely define an irregular area. Query areas can be adjusted or moved (in the case of the radius query) and the query is immediately rerun.
